The island is a special area of conservation largely due to it being a breeding area for many species of birds and is one of the rare places in Ireland where the threatened Corncrake can still be heard calling.

This traditional cottage has three bedrooms, two with double beds and one with two singles. It has a snug sitting room with a solid fuel stove, two sofas a television and a collection of DVDs and books. The kitchen/dining facilities include electric cooker, fridge freezer, washing machine and microwave. The bathroom has a bath and electric shower. There is a stone built shed to the rear of the cottage with a tumble dryer and indoor drying area. The cottage has a small garden surrounded by a Fuchsia hedge and a seating area. It is located in the centre of the Island (Middlequarter Village) close to all amenities.
Transport to and from ferry can be arranged.
